Danish actor Claes Bang burst onto the international film scene after headlining Ruben Östlund's 2017 Cannes Palme D'Or–winning and Oscar-nominated The Square. The film garnered him the European Film Award for Best Actor.
Most recently, Claes appeared in the final season of Showtime's critically acclaimed drama The Affair. He played the titular character in the BBC/Netflix Dracula series from Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, creators of BBC's Sherlock. He starred in Giuseppe Capotondi's thriller The Burnt Orange Heresy opposite Donald Sutherland and Elizabeth Debicki, as well as Dan Friedkin's The Last Vermeer opposite Guy Pearce and Vicky Krieps. He also starred in Robert Eggers' Viking drama The Northman, alongside Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård and Willem Dafoe.
A distinguished stage and screen actor, Claes graduated from the Danish National Theatre School in 1986. Other international work includes the Danish hit TV series The Bridge and Borgen. With perfect unaccented English, Claes is in high demand in the US and regularly works in Germany, Sweden, Denmark and France.
